Quantifying Award Network and Career Development in the Movie Industry

In show business, awards are conferred to persons and films provide incentives performers’ future career development through periodic film festivals events. this work, we focused on exploring the growth dynamics of award system, structure network, relationships between historical performance, collaborations, success performers in movie industry. We collected data from IMDb, which covers more than 3.5K events for 520K individuals with their award-winning records over 90 years. By using network analysis regression models, find several novel results. At first, found exponential proliferation across all genres professions uneven distribution number careers time. More 30% have won multiple awards. Second, built an reveal interlocks based phenomena. that prestigious awards, 47% linkages were over-representative expectations null model. Furthermore, collaboration was highly clustered, exhibiting a high propensity awarded performers. Lastly, our models revealed factors related early winning. Specifically, showed along achievements, collaborators serve important role winning after being nominated, scope depth impact differing awards’ prestige.
